(One could argue, of course, that his early hits were the same movie in different clothes.) That he would make an exception for Grown Ups says nothing good about his trajectory as an artist - at this point, even combining those five words may provoke snickers. Sandler, whose best work tends to be his least rewarded at the box office, has never before made a sequel. Here, Lenny must contend with the news that his wife ( Salma Hayek) wants to have a fourth child Eric, inexplicably, must keep his wife ( Maria Bello) in the dark about how much time he spends keeping his elderly mother company Marcus must make peace with the thuggish son he never knew he sired and Kurt вЂ¦ well, Chris Rock gets to ad-lib one or two funny lines and spend the rest of the film waiting for something better to come along. Like the first film, this one is built upon the seriously misguided idea that five or 10 minutes of sentimental family-values talk can coexist with an hour and a half of burp-snarting and the like. A rivalry is born, though the adults donвЂ™t know theyвЂ™re being targeted for destruction.

Visiting a favorite swimming hole so Eric can dive off the cliff he always feared, they cross paths with a band of frat boys (led by Taylor Lautner), whose collective loutishness makes Sandler & Co. Together they pioneer new bodily functions (EricвЂ™s вЂњburp-snarting,вЂќ which may sound more amusing than it is) and fantasize about those they donвЂ™t get enough of: Attending their daughtersвЂ™ dance rehearsal, they canвЂ™t stop gawking at an educator the credits helpfully dub Hot Dance Teacher. Set on the last day of school, the script follows as Lenny commandeers his kidsвЂ™ bus (the driver, played by Nick Swardson, is high on pills) and, after dropping them and their schoolmates off, makes a day of it with his hooky-playing pals. Throughout, gags are cartoonishly broad and afforded so little time for setup and delivery we seem to be watching less a story than a catalog of tossed-out material. The opening scene, in which a deer wanders into LennyвЂ™s house, offers two separate occasions where the beast rears back on hind legs to urinate on someone the second goes on long enough to suggest someone has a fetish to indulge.

Which is not at all to say that the humor has matured.

What made Grown Ups 2 the most entertaining was the insane amount of cameos the movie had. Still, in all fairness, the movie does earn itself a few laughs. Although, I have to admit I did laugh quite a few times throughout the movie most of it was out of вЂњget me out of hereвЂќ hysteria. Grown Ups 2 schedule and local TV listings. WhatвЂ™s really at play is the humor, which relied more on grossing out the audience rather than making them legitimately laugh. There are several subplots at work, but theyвЂ™re so insignificant that they hardly count. We also see whatвЂ™s up with their kids and wives (played by Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph), as it all leads down to LennyвЂ™s summer celebration party. Lenny (Adam Sandler), Eric (Kevin James), Kurt (Chris Rock), and Marcus (David Spade) decide to spend the day hanging out, messing around at K-Mart (holy product placement!) and finally getting in an altercation with some rowdy frat boys (led by TwilightвЂ™s Taylor Lautner). ItвЂ™s the last day of school and the beginning of summer, the kids are buzzing with excitement and so are the parents. Obviously, I canвЂ™t compare it to the original, but if you want to see a bunch of aging comedians say bad jokes, fart, burp, vomit and do other gross shit, Grown Ups 2 is for you. And it wasnвЂ™t, mainly because Grown Ups 2 practically has no plot. I had not seen Grown Ups, but I figured it wouldnвЂ™t be hard to understand what was going on the sequel.
